October 2024 State of the Movement

Transilience—Bridging Beyond Silos

Dallas, Texas

This October's SOTM theme is "Transilience-Bridging Beyond Silos", and it is an in-person event from October 23-24 in Dallas, Texas. This in-person event is an extension of the virtual June event hosted by A Way Home America & partners. The purpose of these events is to convene movement leaders working to end and prevent youth homelessness to assess the current state of our movement and work together to strategize and combine efforts to prevent and end homelessness for youth and young adults.

To help us plan this upcoming event, we have created a zero-obligation RSVP form to gauge interest in attending. Please take a moment to fill out the form if you are considering joining us in Dallas. Your response will greatly assist us in ensuring a meaningful and productive gathering.

This version, updated for the 2024 calendar year, has transitioned what were originally policy position statements into full policy recommendations. These are reflected, as such, in Policy Recommendations 4–6.

The following policy recommendations and position statements are put forth by A Way Home America’s (AWHA) Youth Policy Team (YPT). We are a team composed of seven young people from across the country working to build youth-centered housing justice.

The priorities in this agenda stem from AWHA’s New Deal to End Youth Homelessness, a federal policy framework that offers a roadmap to transform how youth and young adults, particularly Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC), and LGBTQ+ young people, can be supported to thrive in our society.
